To celebrate the release of And I Will Wake The Dawn Itself! we're releasing a very exclusive lathe cut vinyl version of the album. Lathe cuts aren't the most high fidelity of formats but Wake The Dawn is very much a lo-fi project, much of it recorded to a cranky old 1/2" tape machine, and we love how it sounds on these disks. Each one is hand cut in real time and to add to the handmade feel we cut each outer sleeve by hand as well. Completing the package is a set of three A5 prints featuring artwork by James Youngjohns.

A quick note about delivery times, we're trying to keep these in stock and ready to ship when we get your order however these disks are cut for us in batches of ten with about a 3-4 week turnaround and our first batches went quickly so if we're out we'll email you with an ETA. Currently we're out of stock until early March but have available copies on that delivery.

about

Summer 2020: a rare vulture is spotted circling above the Peak District, its massive 3 metre wingspan dwarfing the area’s usual inhabitants. Native to the Alps, this is only the second recorded sighting of a Lammergeier (“lamb killer” in old German) in England. Lammergeiers are solitary birds, feeding mainly on bones, willing to travel great distances in search of sustenance. The sighting in the Peak District, only an hour from the big cities of Manchester and Sheffield, encouraged many to take to the hills for a rare glimpse.

One such individual - for whom the sighting must surely have been an extraordinary omen - was guitarist and producer James Youngjohns, a veteran of the Manchester music scene having been part of the bands Anna Kashfi, Last Harbour and Quiet Loner for the best part of two decades. Lammergeiers, however, is Youngjohns’ first project as band leader as he corrals a cast of musicians to create unique and compelling soundscapes.

The debut album ‘And I Will Wake The Dawn Itself!” is an ambitious work. Split into four sections, it moves from gently fluttering analogue synth patterns to densely textured tom-heavy rock- lockouts, layered with horns and unabashed guitar solos. The pieces started out as a series of experimental ambient compositions recorded to an elderly 1/2” tape machine and processed through a trusty Roland Space Echo. Gradually, these pieces expanded and were woven into each other as the project flowered into the fully orchestrated final record, a testament to the compositional skills of Youngjohns and his cast of musicians.
